The Do-Over

2008: Week Fifteen Recap

(Recap of Sunday August 24, 2008)
Hit+Run

Hit+Run

Another fine day at The Do-Over is behind us and we now ready ourselves to embark on the always epic Labor Day weekend festivities complete with no work / no school on Monday. Just as alot of us are wiping away Las Vegas hangovers and nearly getting our sangria stains out of our newly printed Do-Over t-shirts, it is time to do it all over again.
Big thanks to Hit+Run for setting up shop last week and making it such a success. We were also treated to a Do-Over first by way of a LIVE set from The Eternal Buzz Brass Band, which included members of Antibalas. All the DJ’s represented hard… Jayceeoh, Dark Alley, DJ Nuts and Onename aka Serg.

2008: Week Fourteen Recap

(Recap of Sunday August 17, 2008)

Come to The Do-Over where the odds are good cuz the goods are odd. That was indeed the case this past Sunday as it felt like an episode of VH1’s Hip-Hop Honors show with some of the attendees showing up. If you were there then you would know what we are talking about. Nonetheless, our mystery guests didn’t let that outshine them as they done did their damn thing. Fellow Jhramatic Sound partner Damon Bell kept it funky with a two-hour disco and boogie set that got things sexy on the dance floor. Spank Rock associate Pase Rock heated things up with an arsenal of dancehall to classic house as the crowd sweated it out in a dancing frenzy. The night was capped off by NWA founding member and electro pioneer, Arabian Prince, who rocked the classics while the crowd chanted along lyric for lyric. Just another Sunday at The Do.

The Final 10: This Sunday (2-6) marks our annual Hit+Run x Do-Over extravaganza where we create custom one of a kind t-shirts designed by the likes of Brent Rollins, Stephen Serrato, the Hit+Run crew and US, so come early as the first 50 will receive a free t-shirt, $20 per shirt after that. Sangria stains not included. If that wasn’t enough to entice you, wait until you see what we have lined up on the mystery guest tip. It will be another Do-Over first!

2008: Week Thirteen Recap

(Recap of Sunday August 10, 2008)

Mr. Choc

Mr. Choc

It’s hard to believe we’ve already passed the halfway point, but we are down to the final 11 Sundays of Season 4 and what a year it has been. There’s not many places in the world you will get to experience an all-star cast of selectors like this and for FREE. Not to worry though, we have no plans of slowing down, in fact, quite the contrary. We have some amazing mystery guests scheduled for the rest of the season including a number of Do-Over firsts and exclusive appearances in LA, so you won’t want to miss out. With that being said, this past Sunday was one of the most eclectic days we’ve had in recent memory and captured The Do-Over essence properly from Frankie Banks bringing that Detroit vibe to Pudge’s beat brigade to Mr. Choc’s extended set covering everything from salsa to hip-hop to a closing disco / boogie set by TK Disko.

Before we embark on the usual Sunday madness (which it will be as we have some very special guests visiting!), we will make our way down the 405 to The Detroit Bar (Costa Mesa) Saturday night for the L’ephunk monthly party so it would be great to party with all of our OC familia.

Saturday August 16th
L’ephunk @ Detroit Bar

Along with residents Urthworm, Roam, noMSG and Faded Tequila Wormz.
Hosted by Lovemade.

2008: Week Twelve Recap

(Recap of Sunday August 3, 2008)

Peanut Butter Wolf 888 Tour

Peanut Butter Wolf 888 Tour

Last Sunday we were treated to a very one-of-a-kind Do-Over. Many were expecting Peanut Butter Wolf to grace us with the audio/visual experience thanks to the 888 tour, but were people prepared for what else lingered up our sleeves? The one and only 9th Wonder threw down a late afternoon set, really getting things moving. Next up, DJ Spinna made an exclusive Los Angeles appearance showing off a wide range of beats that we’ve come to love him for. Peanut Butter Wolf did not disappoint, mixing a crazy selection of house videos (damn, we didn’t even realize there were videos for some of those jams). Finally, the lovely Leo b-day lady, Valida brought out the day with a special set for us. Thanks to all for making it such a special day to remember.

Just when you thought you were safe, we are back again this Sunday bring more of the Do-Over deliciousness that you all can’t get enough of. A special lineup this week (when is it not?) of some first time Do-Over DJ’s, so come see history in the making. Shall we even begin to speculate?
