2008: Week Twenty Four Recap

Important Notice:
Sunday Nov. 2nd | Boo-Over Hours = 4pm-12am.
1/2 Off Sangria from 4pm-6pm.

So here we are, twenty-four weeks have passed, thousands of gallons of sangria have been consumed, countless Mondays have been missed at work and hundreds of new friends have been adopted to The Do-Over family. We will gather one last time this Sunday for our annual end of the season extravaganza The Boo-Over where we will do Halloween over. This is your last chance to get done-over before we go into hibernation for the next six months and we are going out with a bang as we have an All-Star cast of mystery guests lined up that is not to be missed. Early arrival is highly recommended so come early, stay late. Costumes are mandatory for entrance, but since we are a day (or two) late and a dollar short at celebrating Halloween, budget style costumes are encouraged.

As far as what happened last week, well, much of the same as the last twenty-four weeks… Pure madness! First time caller long time listener Adam 12 came through and destroyed the place. One of the best sets and most skilled DJ’s we’ve heard all year. J-Logic was faced with the difficult task of following that up, but came correct as he dropped his 2nd annual Rocktoberfest set that had the crowd rocking out to the classics. The lovely Lady Sha was up next as she spiced and diced her way on the decks heating things up on the dance floor for Velocity B to close things out as he took it across the spectrum from hip-hop bangers to smooth groovers. We apologize to those who had to wait in line, but there’s only so much we can do as we’ve been stressing it for the last six months. Come early, kick back, and enjoy yourself to avoid this problem.

2008: Week Twenty Three Recap

IMPORTANT NEWS: The Do-Over will happen for 2 more Sundays (Oct. 26 & Nov. 2)
Traditions are very important here at The Do-Over and as many of you know, we end the season the last Sunday in October with our annual Boo-Over party. Well we were faced with the tough decision this year of having the last Sunday be 5 days before Halloween so we decided to extend the season one week to officially end Sunday Nov 2nd. With that being said, we will celebrate Boo-Over on November 2nd with our first ever “A Day Late And A Dollar Short” Halloween Extravaganza. Costume is mandatory, but it’s all about the budget / ghetto style costume this year so get creative and save those pennies.

Last week we were treated to very special guests Bobbito and Spinna following their Stevie inspired party the night before. Following Strong and Haycock handling the first 5 or so hours, Spinna and Bobbito took the crowd on a journey through all sorts of sounds. From 80’s to rock to soul to hip hop to funk to afrobeat to …. It was one of the most diverse chunks of time we’ve had at The Do-Over for as long as we can remember. Those who witnessed can easily agree and those who missed out, sorry, we didn’t record so you will have to leave it to your imagination and be sure not to miss out next time around.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN: We’ve made it through nearly all of the 2008 season and are very excited to soon have our Sundays back to do what we like to do (besides The Do-Over). Aloe plans to spend more time perfecting his patent for bluetooth enabled sunglasses complete with cuica ringtone, while Jamie will have more moments to work out his special chicken breast meat brat recipe and develop further his adult internet entertainment dynasty. Haycock, who’s head has already been on vacation from The Do-Over for the last few weeks, plans to be able to wake up and enjoy his hangover even more while hiding in dark dive bars across the east side watching the Bills. Well, the boys will have to wait two more weeks before their dreams can become a reality. This week The Do-Over brings out a cast of favorites for another obnoxious romp through booze, beats and ? Who knows, we might even have another post party pillow fight.

2008: Week Twenty Two Recap

Ahhh… Fall is in the air: the tempature is cooler, nighttime falls earlier and The Do-Over is getting ready to hibernate, but that doesn’t stop us from going out with a bang. The Cosmic Kids opened things up Sunday with a wicked display of cosmic disco, boogie, & house madness. If that didn’t wet your palate, then a live performance by the legendary Large Professor (Main Source, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Erik B & Rakim, Kool G Rap, etc) surely did with J.Rocc on the decks (Peep: djmikeb.blogspot.com/2008/10/why-is-do-over-best-party-in-la.html). With the difficult task of following this performance, the Funky President dropped a mind blowing impromptu set of records handed to him from Jamie Strong’s bag. DJ Spider made his Do-Over debut a memorable one with a party rocking set for the ages. Rounding out the evening was another hometown hero making his Do-Over debut, DJ Mishaps with the extra funky goodness. Special thanks to everyone who did-over The Do-Over by checking out Haycock @ LAX.

The Final Two: With all of the amazing guests and times we’ve had over the last 4 years, it’s hard to imagine we could possibly outdo ourselves, but this Sunday will be another legendary episode of The Do-Over as we get to cross off another name on our Dream List of DJ’s. It will be a slam dunk of a day indeed and not to be missed so come early, stay late, and shake your groove thang.
