The Do-Over

This past week we celebrated our final *regular* Sunday session of the 2009 season at The Do-Over. As we grow in years, the levels we hit later in the year are always a good indication of where we are headed. If the levels from this past Sunday are true to form, wowzer… we are in for some more amazing times in years to come.

From the get go, Mr. Hot Biscuit aka Travis TK Disko rocked a couple hours of daytime boogie and disco to get the people moving. Theo Parrish, one of our favorite producers / dj’s joining us exclusively for the day, followed with 3 hours of that deep and chunky Detroit beatdown sound. Scott K, in his virgin Do-Over appearance behind the wheels, did it right with some serious classics and pumpin jams. Finally, Thee Mike B, who has become a pro at rockin’ The Do-Over crowd dropped a b-side heavy hip hop set (the first ever Do-Over rotary mixed hip hop set).

Okay folks… this brings us to this Sunday’s annual Boo-Over costume jam. Yes, we understand its the day after Halloween, and yes, it is costume mandatory. Are you planning to come without a costume? Well, plan something else. We have years of stories of folks who thought they were too cool to rock a costume, yet not too cool to stand outside on the street and wish they were inside. We open at 4pm this Sunday and ride til 10pm or so. Early arrival is encouraged as it will get heavy. Big big big guests this week too, so What’cha Wanna Do?

It is an extreme honor and pleasure anytime we get to cross off a name on The Do-Over ‘Most Wanted’ list of special guests, which we were fortunate enough to do on Sunday. What has been in the works for years, finally came to fruition as London Town’s Benji B made an exclusive appearance with a musical selection that exemplifies the overall vibe and ethos of Do-Over. That was reason alone to celebrate, but combined with the live mpc beatdown and Brasilian brigade by Jneiro Jarel, Simbad’s dancefloor madness & local hero Computer Jay’s West Coast stylings, it was a Do-Over like no other!

The Final Two: Speaking of ‘Most Wanted’ Lists, we were extremely fortunate to cross this person off the list last year and welcome him back this year for an exclusive LA appearance. DO NOT MISS.

Remember when you were a kid and you made a mistake in a game?  All you wanted was a second chance…a Do-Over. Well that’s definitely what we need for this past Sunday. Haycock opened us up and Don Guapo took us to his humble abode with an enlightening and danceable house set in the early hours. J-Boogie gave us some bay area love with remixes and mashes that kept us grooving until King Britt came through with a unique blend of hip hop and new soul. Maseo was just about to set the place on fire when a tussle erupted over old and new school hip-hop, or was it Pepsi and Coke, or maybe it was whether or not 9th Wonder was coming up next (sorry 9th). Actually, we don’t know what it was about, but after five solid years of fun we definitely won’t let a few bad apples spoil The Do-Over for everyone else.

In fact, the only way to make up for this is by doing it bigger and better this Sunday as we welcome another All-Star cast including an exclusive LA appearance by a special someone from the other side of the pond who has been on our Most Wanted List since day one. Only three left this season so join us Sunday for a Do-Over!
