The Do-Over

Week Five Recap (June 13th, 2010)

We spoke amongst ourselves following last Sunday and realized we haven’t had that much fun in some time at The Do-Over. The formula of lots of good folks, stiff drinks and stand out music does equate to Do-Over success. Even though the Lakers lost, we still lived by the motto of “win or lose we booze”.

Do-Over’s Haycock kicked the day off with a mix in the grindy 70 bpm range bringing the roots, bass, dub, rock and other flavors for the first few hours. Azul followed with a short and set sweet as he warmed up the crowd for his hosting duties. Team Wino, following a successful AIDS Lifecycle ride from SF took over for the next few hours. Tim Love Lee, Timeteo and Toph One showed us how its done… Toph even played Haycock and Strong’s special selected bags as he usually does. Next up, our man Blu Jemz sparkled things up a bit and brought it home as we all realized how tipsy we were getting. Lastly, the one we have now coined as “Mr. Encore,” King Britt took on a long ride through all sorts of classic tunes.

Let’s get hyped for this week’s Comb-Over aka Fathers Day celebration. It’s sure to get very twisted. Perhaps some new daddies will be made as a result.

Week Four Recap (June 6th, 2010)

Win or Lose We Booze. That was definitely the motto this past Sunday as we turned the Lakers L from loss into liquor.  Thankfully we had acclaimed producer Recloose all the way live from New Zealand (via Detroit) to pick up our moods and kick off our Sunday shoes after the game as he blessed us with 2 hours of disco, boogie & house.  Prior to that, long time Do-Over favorites Jayceeoh & House Shoes got things so lively during the game that one almost forgot there was a game and could have easily mistaken the NBA for Nonstop Bangers Alert.  To set the entire day off right and help create the perfect vibe, we called in the disco dons Ron & Dan aka The Cosmic Kids to bless us with their feel good cosmic grooves.

Apologies for those who have been waiting patiently for the DJ Sets from this Season, but our resident audio archivist Aloe Blacc also moonlights as a pop star and unfortunately has been quite busy conquering the world.  If you don’t believe us, check out Aloe’s live performance on France’s biggest TV Show (Eminem performed last week & P Diddy performed this week): http://canalstreet.canalplus.fr/musique/live-du-grand-journal/aloe-blacc-en-live-dans-le-grand-journal-i-need-a-dollar.  With that being said, Aloe and the sets will be available soon.

This Sunday will be a very special one as we welcome an All-Star Cast of out of town guests making the trek (some literally) via SF, NYC & Philly.  Plus, the Lakers Game will be broadcast on 2 TV’s (indoor + outdoor).  Where else can you party outside, listen & dance to good music, enjoy drinks & good times with your friends, all the while rooting on your favorite team?

Week Three Recap (May 30th, 2010)

It’s been said that “3″ is the magic number. Week Three of our sixth season proved just that. A sticky Memorial Day Sunday could be the perfect stage for The Do-Over. We expected a wild one, but perhaps we didn’t forsee it being that berserk.

In typical fashion Strong and Haycock adjusted the levels up for the first few hours. Strong took it across the place in various tempos building up to a disco pace, while Haycock went back down into the dirtier 90bpms tossing a vast selection. The voodoo deep master, Osunlade, followed with a sunny sweaty set of roller classics to deep daylight house jams. Hier followed it up with a fist pump set of the nice kind, even calling people out for expecting the Jamaica sounds he’s known and wasn’t necessarily falling into for most of the set. Beat Junkies own Rhettmatic did what he does best and ripped the patio a new one with a set of classics galore. Fresh from LAX, Pase Rock came in and bitch smacked the tipsy crowd around and did not let up until we were forced to close down at 10:15. All in all another reason you should get to The Do-Over early… it’s a daytime jam if you haven’t already realized.

What should you expect this upcoming Sunday? We ain’t gonna tell you who’s playing but we can assure you it will be another stumbling Sunday under the sun. Oh yeah… GO LAKERS!

Week Two Recap (May 23rd, 2010)

Ahh… the second week usually begins defining the season after the madness that is the first week. The veterans of  The Do-Over have learned to wait a week to get Done-Over as they know how balls out the kick-off can be (as well as such a pain in the ass getting in). In our sixth season we’ve found this to be the truth once again. Things ease up, people pace themselves and the dance floor seems to build steadily all the way until closing time.

This past Sunday we felt we were officially back in a big way. Haycock and Strong brought things up in usual fashion followed by a diverse dance set by Azul who touched on all points of the globe. Al Jackson followed in his usual smooth attitude pushing the frenzy even further. Old school kingpin Stretch Armstrong followed with a quick mixed set going from Jamaica to the golden years of hip hop quickly and seamlessly. Finally, our man Induce from Miami hit the funk and boogie levels as the crowd stumbled and made out into the dark hours.

This week is a 3 day weekend. No work or school Monday. Oh boy!
