The Do-Over

Week Ten Recap (July 19, 2009)

The heat is not going to leave us anytime soon it seems. While the thermometer gets pushed each week we can only help it along by adding more fuel to the flames at The Do-Over. Outside we saw a line wrapping around the building, thanks partially to a LA Times story last Friday (read here), while inside was in a perpetual state of frenzy all day long. We are still amazed by the consistency and enthusiasm of all who are always determined to share their Sunday with us at The Do-Over.

No news of overheating this week to report of except for the tunes coming out of the speakers. Do-Over’s Strong kicked things off on the early as we moved through fantastic phases of moods from guests Lambo and Capski, Inka One, Jedi, Spinderella and Wyatt Case.

2008: Boo-Over Season Finale Recap

Whew. We did it! Somehow we survived another six months of getting done-over and what a past six months it has been. Season Four of The Do-Over was indeed a special one. One quick look at our mystery guests from this year and it could easily be mistaken for a lineup at Coachella (and for free!?!). It’s hard to believe we’ve been so fortunate to have such an amazing cast of artists/dj’s bless us at The Do-Over, but that is a testament to you, our loyal attendees and supporters so for that, we thank you. The Do-Over will always be a party for the people and by the people. Special thanks goes out to Peanut Butter Wolf, J.Rocc, Rhettmatic, Dam-Funk, C-Minus, House Shoes, Induce, Mixmaster Noah and Jedi for getting down at our annual Boo-Over Extravaganza. What a way to end an amazing year. Costumes were plentiful, spirits were high, and good times were had by all. On that note, it’s been real, it’s been fun, and shit, it’s been real fun, but it’s time for Aloe/Chris/Jamie to catch up on some much needed sleep. So we will see you six months from now, unless you suffer from withdrawals and would like to get done-over at one of our special one-off editions. Stay tuned for details.

“This may be the happiest, hoppiest dance party in town, and though it’s done till next summer, at least there’s Do dudes Chris Haycock, Aloe Blacc and Jamie Strong’s annual post-Thanksgiving one-off, The Left Over, to look forward to on Nov. 28. After what we saw Sunday, only a jive turkey would miss it.”

2008: Week Eight Recap

(Recap of Sunday July 6, 2008)

We were anticipating a relatively slow Sunday after the long Holiday weekend, but whom were we kidding? It’s The Do-Over. At one point in the day, we experienced a Do-Over first… a waiting list for sangria. WTF!? Damn, your livers must be having as much fun as ours. Fun was indeed on the menu as Mona Lisa kicked things off with a special Bday set that took us all by surprise. Damn girl, where have these skills been hiding all of these years? Next up, we had the return of a few out of town favorites with J Rawls and Turntable Lab’s Sabo heating things up on the dance floor for DJ Jedi to do his damn thing. As night began to settle, Troublemaker took the party to new heights as he dropped Dead Prez coincidentally at the same as M1 walked into Do-Over. The night was topped off with another out of town favorite and fellow Turntable Labrat, Lloydski who took it deep and dirty on the disco & house tips.

This Sunday should be another one for the history books as we welcome one of The City of Brotherly Love’s finest making his Do-Over debut. Early arrival is highly recommended, as this will be a very special day. Get in to fit in.
