This past Sunday marked another milestone for Do-Over as we made our grand debut in The Pacific Northwest for The Do-ORver aka Do-Oregon and what a debut it was. This was the first of a three part series for Portland (Aug 22nd & Sept 19th) which will feature a rotating cast of mystery guests alongside local hero’s. For the debut, we brought with us J.Rocc and Gaslamp Killer who are not only two of our favorite DJ’s, but also best represent the overall vibe of The Do-Over alongside Portland’s finest DJ Kez. The moment we hit the patio at Produce Row, we knew we found our home away from home. The vibe was as good as it could possibly get right on down to our signature sangria. Even the neighbors got in on the action as loft dwellers danced in their loft as well as on the rooftop as GLK created havoc with his beat brigade and J.Rocc took guests on a journey to The White House of The Funky President. A very special thanks to adidas for supporting our vision and making sure the good folks of Portland got done-over.
We have even more tricks up our sleeve for Sunday August 22nd so save the date.

As we embark upon Year Six of The Do-Over, we realize that the old proverb “it only gets better with age” does indeed hold some truth. It has already been a milestone of a year with our first ever Do-Lover Valentines Party to our first event outside of LA with our invasion at The Winter Music Conference in Miami which was beyond crazy (“One of the real highlights of WMC” – Gilles Peterson). Each Season we somehow manage to do it bigger and better and this Summer is no exception as we have plenty of surprises in-store. You just never know who will show up and/or where The Do-Over will show up.
Speaking of which, we kicked Do-Over 6.0 off with a first time guest and The Queen of The Beats, Miss Mary Anne Hobbs who delivered a head smacking affair of beats and dub step. If you missed this set, you will have to seek out her radio show on BBC to get a taste as this set will never see the light of day. The only person who could follow a set like that was none other than The Funky President himself – J.Rocc who proved once again he is one of the All-Time Greats to ever bless the decks. We were treated to a very rare two hour set of disco, house, broken beat & uptempo madness. And the only person who could follow a set like that and close it out was none other than bday boy (thee) Mike B rocking an all vinyl set. From the moment Blaqstarr joined him on the opening song to the last song of the evening, Mike B had folks in a dancing frenzy.

I guess it’s safe to say our New Years Resolution of taking it easy on the ole sauce just ain’t gonna work out cuz’ we are a day late and dollar short on a recap from The New-Over. Well, it’s safe to say the hangover has finally settled and just in time to bring you the first ever Valentine’s Bash aka The Do-Lover this Sunday Feb 14th (2pm-10pm). Before we get into that though, let’s try to remember what transpired on New Years Day. We remember hitting capacity around 4pm and not much more after that. Wait… the outdoor patio and bar received a nice face lift adding some extra room (or maybe that was following The Left-Over) and oh yah, our mystery guests J.Rocc, Stretch Armstrong, Rockwell & DJ Higher absolutely destroyed it. It was one of the craziest parties all year. Wait, that’s how we kicked the year off!? Something tells us this is going to be one crazy season (Save The Date: May 16th kickoff).

Good times as always at our Sunday soiree in. Wiseacre started us off with a nice blend of now and then and a little bit of rare here and there. Benny Ben put the “D” in Do-Over with a high speed up-tempo set not unlike what our Detroit patrons say they would hear back home. The Beat Junkies came through for DJ Babu’s birthday and instituted the first Do-Over “Take Over” with party rocking sets by J.Rocc, Rhettmatic, and debut sets by Curse and Babu. John Arnold followed in suit by keeping the party hyped with some more hip hop and a bit of his hometown Detroit sound. Before it was time to go, Induce took us home with some funk, freestyle and disco.
If you know what The Do-Over is about, then you know you don’t wanna miss out. We are riding out this 2009 season with a STACKED lineup, each week.
