The Do-Over

Week Ten Recap (July 18, 2010)

For the first time ever The Do-Over took place in two places at once. We are doing it again this week with some extra heavy lineups in LA and Portland too. Since we are sitting on the beach in Puerto Rico still, we are going to write this recap based on pictures, videos and twitter noise we heard over the past week. I guess this is what the future has for us lazy asses….

Anyways, Azul 213* took over the hosting duties and served up some fine photos as well as videos. Follow the links below to get those. Big ups to all the DJ’s that covered for us in our absence – Mixmaster Noah, Azul, C-Minus, Steve1der and Fashen. We heard it was serious stuff gawn down. Also, big belated bday wished to our homie Daym!

A more accurate explanation of things will come with next weeks LA recap. Haycock is flying back to run the show and keep the DJ’s fed behind the decks.

Week Sixteen Recap (August 30, 2009)

It was with great sadness and shock when we learned of our friend Adam Goldstein’s (aka DJ AM) passing last Friday. We were lucky enough to know Adam as well as have him as a special guest last year so our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends. There’s an old saying ‘home is where the heart is’ and The Do-Over definitely felt like a homecoming with all of the friends and family in the house to show their heartfelt support for Adam as we dedicated the day to him. The energy and emotion was like no other.  Our special guests provided an incredible soundtrack for the day to uplift the spirits and celebrate life alongside the ones that matter most, your friends and family. Special thanks to Morse Code, DJ Nugget, Jerome Baker 3rd, Kutmah, Kogataroo and Mixmaster Noah.

We suggest reading dedications from his colleagues in the music / DJ world. He moved so many people and shaped what we have come to know as DJ’ing today. Check a list of dedications in our last post here.

All you really need to know about this Sunday is no work/school on Monday. Holiday Weekends mean we do it bigger and we do it better.

2008: Boo-Over Season Finale Recap

Whew. We did it! Somehow we survived another six months of getting done-over and what a past six months it has been. Season Four of The Do-Over was indeed a special one. One quick look at our mystery guests from this year and it could easily be mistaken for a lineup at Coachella (and for free!?!). It’s hard to believe we’ve been so fortunate to have such an amazing cast of artists/dj’s bless us at The Do-Over, but that is a testament to you, our loyal attendees and supporters so for that, we thank you. The Do-Over will always be a party for the people and by the people. Special thanks goes out to Peanut Butter Wolf, J.Rocc, Rhettmatic, Dam-Funk, C-Minus, House Shoes, Induce, Mixmaster Noah and Jedi for getting down at our annual Boo-Over Extravaganza. What a way to end an amazing year. Costumes were plentiful, spirits were high, and good times were had by all. On that note, it’s been real, it’s been fun, and shit, it’s been real fun, but it’s time for Aloe/Chris/Jamie to catch up on some much needed sleep. So we will see you six months from now, unless you suffer from withdrawals and would like to get done-over at one of our special one-off editions. Stay tuned for details.

“This may be the happiest, hoppiest dance party in town, and though it’s done till next summer, at least there’s Do dudes Chris Haycock, Aloe Blacc and Jamie Strong’s annual post-Thanksgiving one-off, The Left Over, to look forward to on Nov. 28. After what we saw Sunday, only a jive turkey would miss it.”

2008: Week Six Recap

(Recap of Sunday June 22, 2008)

Skillz and DJ AM

Skillz and DJ AM

Summertime and the living is easy… Well, at least that’s the case at Do-Over! Glenn Fry would have been quite proud this past Sunday because the heat was definitely on. In fact, it was an all around scorcher and one for the Do-Over history books! Longtime member of the Do-Over familia Mixmaster Noah got things grooving on the early tip. Mr. Chocolate City Garth Trinidad got busy on the disco & Brazilian tip setting it up for one of the deepest crates around, Danny Halloway who busted out the rare dub/reggae jams alongside legendary percussionist Leon Mobley (Ben Harper) and the lovely songstress Noelle Scaggs. As the heat began to fade with the sunset, the sweat begin to increase as Stones Throw head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf took us on a journey through his rare archives. The evening was capped off by a legendary 2-hour set from DJ AM complete with a cameo by (Mad) Skillz on the mic. This was no hipster affair though as DJ AM threw down a classic hip-hop party rocking set and showed why he is one of the most skilled DJ’s in the game. Wow. What a memorable day it was for all and one of the most hyped crowds we have seen in the last four years.

Who will be there this Sunday? There’s more mysteries than an episode of Matlock, but we guarantee another all-star cast that you won’t want to miss! Get in to fit in.
