Historically, Father’s Day has been our slowest day of the summer for the past five years, but that was no longer the case this past Sunday as it was a live one from sun up to sun down. Even a few Fathers and one Grandfather joined in the fun. Resident Jamie Strong and guest Dirty Dave took care of things for the first three hours by keeping it casual with the disco vibes. Ninja Tune’s DJ Vadim was up next with the big beat set that got the crowd bouncing followed by one of LA’s most underrated talent’s Jeremy Sole who played possibly the tune of the season so far (brass band cover of “Another Brick In The Wall). As day proceeded into night, things got even more lively as Mr. Choc took control of the decks and showed why he is one of the best in the biz and Baby Bam of The Jungle Brothers even joined in on some freestlye antics. The Bladerunners proved that the Boston based DJ duo is much better at closing things out than their counterparts, The Celtics as they took us on a journey across across the coasts.
Summertime is now obviously in full-swing. Case and point was this past Sunday with the temperature and sunshine deciding to represent to the fullest. Lets not forget the incredible lineup of special guests and in combination it’s easy to say it was the perfect formula for a perfect Do-Over day.
While many braved a line around the building to get a taste of that sweet sweet sangria, the vibe inside was one of optimism, remembrance and mayhem. Though Black Sabbath did kick off the musical program, it was no sign of the shine that took over… special guests Daishizen from Japan, DJ Proof all the way from the Bay, Peanut Butter Wolf, The Rub’s own Ayres, Mr. Choc and the notorious Waldo all laid it down in the only way they know how… smooth and funky, with some amazing moments of MJ sprinkled in for god measure.
Celebrate your independence this Sunday and why not close out the long weekend with the Sunday sure-fire-sure-shot that is guaranteed to fill up any unfulfilled expectations from these sometimes overwhelming holiday weekends (ha, basically be sure to overwhelm yourself!)

The 2nd Annual Left-Over was quite the hum dinger! As the turkey settled, the waistband expanded, and we recovered from PBDS (Post Bird-Day Syndrome), the fiesta carried on in true Do-Over fashion: leftovers, tunes, and drinks (and more drinks). It was another packed house as we welcomed an eclectic batch of mystery guest selectors which included Small Change, Mr. Choc, John Arnold, Them Jeans, Jayceoh, & Plan 9. Those of you in attendance were treated to the opening of the bar next door as well as phase one of the remodeling inside Cranes. It’s been a long time coming, but was well worth the wait as the bar now offers something for everyone. Get your groove on outside, cut some rugs inside, or kick back and get your swerve on next door in a more intimate setting. Watch this space for more developments.
We will see you all the first day of 2009. Thats right, what better place to work off that New Years Eve hangover than The Do-Over, or as we like to call it… The New-Over!

(Recap of Sunday August 10, 2008)
It’s hard to believe we’ve already passed the halfway point, but we are down to the final 11 Sundays of Season 4 and what a year it has been. There’s not many places in the world you will get to experience an all-star cast of selectors like this and for FREE. Not to worry though, we have no plans of slowing down, in fact, quite the contrary. We have some amazing mystery guests scheduled for the rest of the season including a number of Do-Over firsts and exclusive appearances in LA, so you won’t want to miss out. With that being said, this past Sunday was one of the most eclectic days we’ve had in recent memory and captured The Do-Over essence properly from Frankie Banks bringing that Detroit vibe to Pudge’s beat brigade to Mr. Choc’s extended set covering everything from salsa to hip-hop to a closing disco / boogie set by TK Disko.
Before we embark on the usual Sunday madness (which it will be as we have some very special guests visiting!), we will make our way down the 405 to The Detroit Bar (Costa Mesa) Saturday night for the L’ephunk monthly party so it would be great to party with all of our OC familia.
