The Do-Over

2008: Week Sixteen Recap

(Recap of Sunday August 31, 2008)

Our fourth annual Labor Day Sunday is in the books and oh boy what a crazy day it was. Perhaps the bird droppings on Haycock’s first records were a sign of good luck? Regardless, something was guiding the DJ’s along all day long. Combine that with the crowd energy and the optimism of no work or school on Monday, it was one for the books. Following Haycock’s bird assisted set, Peanut Butter Wolf and James Pants tagged up for a few hours dropping extremely deep boogie and hip hop selections. We say it all the time, but their set is proof positive that early arrival comes with its perks. Next up, Do-Over first timer and internationally known Frenchman DJ Cam brought the party out with a classic hip-hop set. Standing on bricks, Oakason followed, bringing her Jamaican vibes to the sunny holiday as we slipped into night. LA’s Steve 1der built up a pretty hectic scene dropping all sorts of bombs as many started dropping from the Sangria. Closing it out, DJ Anonymous all the way from Finland knew exactly what we do out here with some golden selections causing some noise amongst some of the ladies in the house..

As many feel like summer’s last hurrah was last weekend, all of us in Los Angeles know better. The Do-Over keeps going strong until the end of October with the usual madness and this week is no different. We have a crazy selection of folks getting down and the TV’s will be boasting the opening Sunday of football.

2008: Week Twelve Recap

(Recap of Sunday August 3, 2008)

Peanut Butter Wolf 888 Tour

Peanut Butter Wolf 888 Tour

Last Sunday we were treated to a very one-of-a-kind Do-Over. Many were expecting Peanut Butter Wolf to grace us with the audio/visual experience thanks to the 888 tour, but were people prepared for what else lingered up our sleeves? The one and only 9th Wonder threw down a late afternoon set, really getting things moving. Next up, DJ Spinna made an exclusive Los Angeles appearance showing off a wide range of beats that we’ve come to love him for. Peanut Butter Wolf did not disappoint, mixing a crazy selection of house videos (damn, we didn’t even realize there were videos for some of those jams). Finally, the lovely Leo b-day lady, Valida brought out the day with a special set for us. Thanks to all for making it such a special day to remember.

Just when you thought you were safe, we are back again this Sunday bring more of the Do-Over deliciousness that you all can’t get enough of. A special lineup this week (when is it not?) of some first time Do-Over DJ’s, so come see history in the making. Shall we even begin to speculate?

2008: Week Six Recap

(Recap of Sunday June 22, 2008)

Skillz and DJ AM

Skillz and DJ AM

Summertime and the living is easy… Well, at least that’s the case at Do-Over! Glenn Fry would have been quite proud this past Sunday because the heat was definitely on. In fact, it was an all around scorcher and one for the Do-Over history books! Longtime member of the Do-Over familia Mixmaster Noah got things grooving on the early tip. Mr. Chocolate City Garth Trinidad got busy on the disco & Brazilian tip setting it up for one of the deepest crates around, Danny Halloway who busted out the rare dub/reggae jams alongside legendary percussionist Leon Mobley (Ben Harper) and the lovely songstress Noelle Scaggs. As the heat began to fade with the sunset, the sweat begin to increase as Stones Throw head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf took us on a journey through his rare archives. The evening was capped off by a legendary 2-hour set from DJ AM complete with a cameo by (Mad) Skillz on the mic. This was no hipster affair though as DJ AM threw down a classic hip-hop party rocking set and showed why he is one of the most skilled DJ’s in the game. Wow. What a memorable day it was for all and one of the most hyped crowds we have seen in the last four years.

Who will be there this Sunday? There’s more mysteries than an episode of Matlock, but we guarantee another all-star cast that you won’t want to miss! Get in to fit in.
