The Do-Over

The Do-Over Portland v.2 Recap (August 22nd, 2010)

Wow! So we are convinced Portland likes to party. We are fully advised that Portland likes to party at The Do-Over. From the look on everyone’s faces throughout the day, it was difficult not to come to that conclusion. Our second installment of The Do-Oregon was a smashing success. Our first edition was great and this easily surpassed it in energy according to those lucky enough to enjoy both.

The Do-Over’s Aloe Blacc and Haycock handled the hosting duties, while Portland friend Ohmega Watts repped for the locals. LA’s own (thee) Mike B & Adam 12 provided all sorts of smiles for the 2nd half of the day, switching off every half hour, easily topping the levels that we predicted.

Big thanks to adidas for the continued support in Portland. Many thanks to Red Bull and Bacardi for extra support. Special shouts to the Portland staff headed by Connie and Alan.

We will return for the 3rd and final installment of 2010 on Sunday September 19th. We will be bringing our biggest lineup to date. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. Go ahead and RSVP at www.thedoover.net/portland

Week One Recap (May 16th, 2010)

As we embark upon Year Six of The Do-Over, we realize that the old proverb “it only gets better with age” does indeed hold some truth. It has already been a milestone of a year with our first ever Do-Lover Valentines Party to our first event outside of LA with our invasion at The Winter Music Conference in Miami which was beyond crazy (“One of the real highlights of WMC”Gilles Peterson).  Each Season we somehow manage to do it bigger and better and this Summer is no exception as we have plenty of surprises in-store.  You just never know who will show up and/or where The Do-Over will show up.

Speaking of which, we kicked Do-Over 6.0 off with a first time guest and The Queen of The Beats, Miss Mary Anne Hobbs who delivered a head smacking affair of beats and dub step.  If you missed this set, you will have to seek out her radio show on BBC to get a taste as this set will never see the light of day.  The only person who could follow a set like that was none other than The Funky President himself – J.Rocc who proved once again he is one of the All-Time Greats to ever bless the decks.  We were treated to a very rare two hour set of disco, house, broken beat & uptempo madness.  And the only person who could follow a set like that and close it out was none other than bday boy (thee) Mike B rocking an all vinyl set.  From the moment Blaqstarr joined him on the opening song to the last song of the evening, Mike B had folks in a dancing frenzy.

Week Twenty Four Recap (October 25, 2009)

This past week we celebrated our final *regular* Sunday session of the 2009 season at The Do-Over. As we grow in years, the levels we hit later in the year are always a good indication of where we are headed. If the levels from this past Sunday are true to form, wowzer… we are in for some more amazing times in years to come.

From the get go, Mr. Hot Biscuit aka Travis TK Disko rocked a couple hours of daytime boogie and disco to get the people moving. Theo Parrish, one of our favorite producers / dj’s joining us exclusively for the day, followed with 3 hours of that deep and chunky Detroit beatdown sound. Scott K, in his virgin Do-Over appearance behind the wheels, did it right with some serious classics and pumpin jams. Finally, Thee Mike B, who has become a pro at rockin’ The Do-Over crowd dropped a b-side heavy hip hop set (the first ever Do-Over rotary mixed hip hop set).

Okay folks… this brings us to this Sunday’s annual Boo-Over costume jam. Yes, we understand its the day after Halloween, and yes, it is costume mandatory. Are you planning to come without a costume? Well, plan something else. We have years of stories of folks who thought they were too cool to rock a costume, yet not too cool to stand outside on the street and wish they were inside. We open at 4pm this Sunday and ride til 10pm or so. Early arrival is encouraged as it will get heavy. Big big big guests this week too, so What’cha Wanna Do?

2008: Week Nineteen Recap

(Recap of Sunday September 21, 2008)

The Gaslamp Killer

The Gaslamp Killer

This past Sunday was to be our most anticipated Do-Over to date, but unfortunately was marred with tragedy and sorrow. The legendary Jazzy Jeff was going to bless us with his presence on Sunday, but like many of us, he awoke Saturday to the tragic news of the plane crash involving DJ AM & Travis Barker and chose to get on a plane to be at home. Our hearts and prayers go out to all that were involved in this tragic accident, and we hear that Adam will be back in LA within the day or two.

In more positive news, one of our favorite Do-Over guests, Jeremy Sole made his first appearance of the summer and it was well worth the wait as he brought some serious Afro-Funkiness, but in true Do-Over fashion, gears quickly changed as the beat brigade began by beat fanatics The Gaslamp Killer and Samiyam who dropped the neck cracking beats. Thee Mike B was MVP of the night, not only from his party rockin set which is always a highlight of The Do-Over season, but he came through in the clutch when the highly anticipated set from Waldo P was marred with technical difficulties. Mike B lent his computer to Waldo P who came correct and dropped it like it’s hot.

The Final 5: We are doing it big once again with a special guest from the right coast making his Do-Over debut! In fact, we plan on ending the season on a high note with 1-2 special out of town guests that will make their Do-Over debut each Sunday from here on out so DO NOT miss as you never know who will be getting down!

Whatcha’ Wanna Do? Do-Over!
